Following concerns from local residents, Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire, has written to the Council about the lack of consultation and communication over their decision to implement day care charges.
Charges for Council day care centres are set to climb to as much as £43 per day, but many users have been left in the dark as to how this figure was calculated and exactly what they are being charged for.
Commenting Jo said:
“There appears to have been little or no consultation with the families who use these day care centres. Many users only became aware of the new charges when they were asked to provide details of their income, just five weeks before charges were due to start. The Council could and should have been engaging with people about these changes months ago.
“I’ve also heard from several carers whose relatives use the Anand Bhavan Day Centre in Kirkintilloch, many of whom are not native English speakers. The Council did not send out the information about the charges in alternative languages, leaving many elderly people in the dark about what was proposed.
“Surely the Council should be able to communicate properly with the people who use this service, especially as they are elderly and vulnerable, and explain the new charges and why they are coming into effect. It seems the Council has learned nothing from their botched implementation of charges for sheltered housing wardens and home care services.”
