Local business has its say on funding at banking event
Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire was joined by local businesses and representatives from the banking sector at Smiths Hotel in Kirkintilloch on Friday 31 May to discuss access to finance for small and medium sized businesses (SMEs).
The East Dunbartonshire Business Lending Event featured representatives from Clydesdale Bank, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Lloyds TSB (Bank of Scotland) discussing the support they offer to small and medium sized enterprises. Following the panel discussion there were opportunities to discuss specific issues with the banks and fellow attendees.
The aim was to build better links between businesses and banks and raise awareness about the support available in our challenging economic climate.
The Coalition Government has implemented a number of measures with the objective of supporting SMEs and ensuring that they have the necessary access to funding including the Business Bank and the Enterprise Finance Guarantee.
Commenting, Jo Swinson said:
“Access to finance can be a major obstacle for businesses who want to expand and hire more local people.
“Supporting SMEs as they try to access funding, not only from banks but also from Coalition Government programmes, is vital to our local economy.
“I was delighted to encourage constructive dialogue between businesses, banks and MPs at the event. The feedback I’ve received has already been positive with a number of local business owners forging links with bank representatives on the day.
